Lisa Danaë – Californian pop singer – released her newest single “Weigh Me Down” on December 8th. The song tells the story of learning to not only conquer insecurities but also letting go of the things that are out of your control. Despite the seriousness of the topic of the song, the song itself is as hopeful sounding as the lyrics. The melody is upbeat filled with pianos, good harmonies, and rapid and steady percussion beat.
One of the aspects of the song that I personally found fresh was the storytelling aspect of the song. It was reminded me of early 2000s pop, where when you singled along to the song the listeners was able to envision what the artist was singing about. Overall, “Weigh Me Down” is a song that is a pure pop song in the most fun way. It also holds a message of empowerment that can be applied to the life of the everyday listener.
Danaë’s lyrics “I won’t blame someone else // I’m the one that controls” show the decision to not let outside opinions and thoughts control your own actions. A decision that hits home especially hard during a time of change.
Personally, I can foresee Danaë taking on major mainstream popularity in the pop music space. More so if her future music replicates any of the elements that “Weigh Me Down” holds. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings in regards to music from Danaë. And what she herself brings to the future of pop music.
