Bandcamp Friday – April 1 Roundup (Charity Edition)

Happy April Fool’s Day! Even though you’re destined to be bombarded with plenty of jokes and pranks today – some clever, some cringe-worthy, it’s no joke that today is also Bandcamp Friday. Since it’s also no joke that the Fortnite folks still own Bandcamp, this roundup of musical goodies will definitely get you a victory royale. And, since all the proceeds to these comps go to charity, you’ll also get a victory royale in life by supporting them.

Bandcamp Pick #1 – Sgt. Scag Releases New Single as Part of Charity Comp

CPRW Records and Ear Nutrition teamed up to release a new compilation called Not Here, Not Anywhere. The focus of this comp is to raise money for The Dash Charity. The Dash Charity is an organization whose goal is to stop domestic violence. The charity comp features 30 bands in total, spanning several music genres.

One of the bands featured on the comp is Sgt. Scag. They took the opportunity to debut a brand new song for the comp. It’s called “Spotless and Sponsored” and it’s a catchy ska punk ripper.

Bandcamp Pick #2 – Backyard Superheroes Cover Weezer

Why not keep the charity comp train rolling? The next release not only supports the Human Rights Campaign, but also features some fun ska renditions of classic Weezer songs. From A Few Good Records, Ari Hates This has covers from the likes of Holy Schnikes, Lumpy, and New Jersey’s Backyard Superheroes. The Superheroes go all the way back to 2002 to cover “Keep Fishin'” off Weezer’s Maladroit.

Bandcamp Pick #3 – Songs For Moms

With Mother’s Day around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to focus some attention on the Songs For Moms comp that Ska Punk International released as a tribute to the moms (and dads) we’ve lost from cancer. With proceeds going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Songs For Moms, Volume 1 features some of the best bands in the ska and ska adjacent scenes today. To go along with the theme of the compilation, each cover on the album is either about moms, or a song a mom would like. How can you go wrong?

These are just a few of the great things you can find on Bandcamp today. Remember, this is the best day of the month to support your favorite bands on the platform because they waive all of their fees. That means, more money goes into the band’s pockets today, and in the case of these charity comps, in the pockets of those charities. If these bands aren’t your cup of tea, then I implore you to take a look around Bandcamp and find some other bands you can support. They can all use the help these days, especially with gas prices rising as touring kicks back into full swing.
