Record Review: Tyranny is Tyranny – Let It Come From Whom It May

a0044697312_2Tyranny is Tyranny is a band from Madison, WI that magically blends elements of post-rock, punk, noise, progressive, and even some sludge metal to create a completely unique and strong sound. The band’s debut album Let It Come From Whom It May depicts the “dismantling of capitalism” and is slated for an October 31st release through Phratry Records.

Let It Come From Whom It May put me through noisy chaos before letting me take a breather in beautifully serene soundscapes, and before I knew it I was right in the middle of the chaos once again. Picture living through the craziest hurricane you’ve ever experienced, then suddenly everything calming down as the eye moves over your house and before you even have a chance to clean up all the debris you’re right back into the madness.

Piercing through the mayhem are extremely satisfying melodic guitar riffs. Mix that with the sludgier guitars, driving drums, and harsher vocals reminiscent of 80’s hardcore and bands like the Melvins and you have yourself a promising debut for Tyranny Is Tyranny.

Underlying the instruments are some political concepts, explained by guitarist Russell Emerson Hall as the “dismantling of capitalism”, and “left-wing outrage”. Possibly further supporting these are the subtle use of different artworks for each song file.

Witness for yourself the pure genre-smashing euphoria that is Let It Come From Whom It May, and be sure to pick up the album October 31st!
