The Crushed Monocle Podcast is a show where Jon and Coop talk about stuff. ALL the stuff! Music, movies, shows, life, or whatever. Naturally, they will mispronounce names, poke fun at themselves, and never fail to profess their love for the 1995 masterpiece, Showgirls. Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why you must subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 26 – cool sorcery da.daer.!

In this episode, Jon and Coop are joined by not one band, but two! cool sorcery and da.daer.!

Hailing all the way from Brazil, Marcos Assis is the mastermind behind the post-punk project, cool sorcery. Combining elements of noise and psyche, cool sorcery is alternative to the indie industrial movement that isn’t afraid of being fun. Meanwhile, Bearded Gentlemen Music’s very own Kendon Luscher formed da.daer. out from the ashes of the now-defunct Ad Read Podcast. Joining forces with Ben Bracey (of Hold My Headache) and Crushed Monocle/Bearded Gentlemen Music founder, Jon Robertson, da.daer. is an organically electronic expedition of synth, noise, and punk.

Both acts have come together for the mechanically malevolent split EP, God Inside A Human Machine. Lo-fi meets Hi-fi in this collection of tracks driven by the meticulous production of electronica with the reckless abandon of garage rock. It’s everything you love about life and fear about death as both bands paint an audio tapestry of the horrors of God versus man.

Fortunately, a collaboration where not a single artist lives in the same state or even country makes for some interesting conversation! Marcos, Ben, Kendon, Jon, and Coop discuss the genesis of each band, the EP, and various topics such as:

  • Listening to Tool for the first time.
  • The fundamentals of experimentation.
  • How not having a singer means a band has to get creative.
  • Trying to sell bedroom-created music to videogame developers.
  • The importance of knowing when your own is being released.
  • Any album with nudity or aquatic animals on the cover is a good album.
  • A heartwarming story about an exchange student, Showgirls, a broken foot, and a ruined birthday.

Most importantly, the gang discusses why the collaboration of cool sorcery and da.daer. is the most important record of the year.

Do these topics interest you? Of course, they do! Please don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share The Crushed Monocle Podcast in your favorite format. So, kick back, sip on a beverage, and enjoy Jon and Coop talking about stuff. ALL the stuff!
