Pink Beam Band Interview

Interview with Pink Beam

Today we hear from Pink Beam, Rockford IL darlings who just released a new music video for their single “Did You Ever Really Think You’d Fall In Love”. With a sprawling range of influences culminating in a refreshingly pure grounded rock sound, Pink Beam have a lot to be proud of and a lot on the horizon.

How long have you been a band?

-We have been playing together for about 5 years, give or take.

What inspires your sound and style as a band – musical influences, cultural influences, etc?

-We are really into songs. 60’s pop and 90’s alt rock are sort of where we get our sound from. The Beach Boys and The Beatles mean a lot to us but we borrow heavily from bands like Weezer and Teenage Fanclub. We really like catchy tunes.

Is all your music DIY – self-recorded and self-released?

-We demo all of our songs before properly recording them but aside from our first EP, we go to a recording studio. We have put all of our music out ourselves so far but may be getting some help with our next record.

Where are your favorite venues to play live?

-Mary’s Place is our favorite local venue but The House Cafe in Dekalb, IL is great as well.

Where does the name Pink Beam come from?

-Sci-fi author Philip K. Dick. He claimed that a pink beam of light came to him and gave him information. I was watching a documentary about him and the phrase ‘pink beam’ came up a bunch and it stuck out to me. People sometimes think it’s some sort of euphemism or a sexual thing but it’s not.

What’s next on the horizon for the band?

-We are currently writing new songs to add to the stack of unrecorded material we plan to record this fall/winter. We want to put a full length record out in 2019. Other than that, we just started recording a highly stylized cover of “Puff The Magic Dragon” for a compilation album for a medical marijuana dispensary. We also just filmed a Live At The Rock Room session with Mike Felumlee which should be out soon.

Anything else you want the world to know?

-Be on the look out for new material soon! We’re on Facebook (@pinkbeamsongs), instagram (@pinkbeamofficial) and twitter (@pinkbeamsongs). Look us up on youtube for all of our music videos too.
