The Crushed Monocle Podcast is a show where Jon and Coop talk about stuff. ALL the stuff! Music, movies, shows, life, or whatever. Naturally, they will mispronounce names, poke fun at themselves, and never fail to profess their love for the 1995 masterpiece, Showgirls. Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why you must subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 28 – A Riot with Heather West!

Joining Jon and Coop in this episode is the legendary Heather West!

Born in Texas and eventually migrated to Chicago, Heather West founded Western Publicity in 2009. She has worked as a talent scout, radio promotions rep, label manager, and publicist. Working with a plethora of bands, artists, writers, and filmmakers, West has built a reputation with more people in the music industry than most will hear in their lifetime!

Through coverage of Riot Fest in Chicago over the years, Coop has become friends with West by trying not to be needy or annoying. Despite coming close to being strangled more times than he cares to admit, Coop and West share the common ground of their love of Riot Fest and the Chicago music scene.

Ahead of Riot Fest 2023, Jon, Coop, and Heather West discuss the festival as well as other seething topics such as

  • The importance of running a festival like a small show
  • Line-ups with and without scheduling conflicts
  • Being murdered by Dave Lombardo
  • How Riot Mike manages to book legendary acts each year
  • Diva performers who shamelessly change the plan at the eleventh hour
  • Why staying hydrated is underrated
  • Heather’s insatiable love of murder-ballads

Most Importantly, Heather West gives you a peak behind the curtain of America’s largest music festival NOT run by a corporation!

With experience of running countless shows over the years, Jon and West also share how difficult it can be to keep the machine running. As concertgoers, the general public thinks it’s as easy as a band playing a few songs and people will show up. But in reality, the difference between smooth sailing and a disastrous train wreck is most of the time a good crew.

Do these topics interest you? Well, you’ve stuck it out with the show this far, so that has to count for something! Please don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share The Crushed Monocle Podcast in your favorite format. So, kick back, sip on a beverage (preferably non-alcoholic), and enjoy Jon, Coop, and Heather West talking about stuff. ALL the stuff!
