The Bearded Gentlemen First of The Month Podcast has been successfully rebooted! And just like all those remakes you didn’t ask for, we’ve turned it into something barely recognizable! The role of host will now be played by me, Coop! The co-host with the most will still be played by none other than site owner, Jon Robertson. We’ve also changed the name of it to The Crushed Monocle Podcast! This is episode 6: The Grift That Keeps On Grifting.
As the holiday season is upon us, Jon and I have put on our best sweaters and manscaped the trees. The new year is right around the corner so it’s the perfect time to do some re-gifting.
Despite what the Hallmark Channel leads you to believe, not everyone gets the opportunity to leave the stuffy businessman for the dashingly good-looking country boy with the really nice flannel and heart of gold. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the good and bad with some yuletide transparency! Obliviously we’re gonna talk about some of our favorite 2021 albums, but some of the other topics we discuss, are:
- Failure’s new record is spacey but pretty
- Coop is seriously repping some R&B
- Jon dismantles a little Stone Temple Pilots and Bush
- Kevin Smith movies haven’t aged well
- Seth Rogen kinda sucks
- Ernest Saves Christmas is the film all holiday movies must be judged upon
Most importantly, we share our opinions on how media and culture are grifting us into grifting.
If 2021 has taught us anything, it’s that we need to support indie artists and labels (like Soul Step Records and The Ghost Is Clear Records among others) more than ever. As we buy products we have to rent to use, who is really benefiting? Is the money we spend going to the content creators or just being sucked into a digital void? Such questions can make a person second guess just what ownership means anyway. But no matter what, 2021 had some steller music so we really can’t complain too much.
