New Jams: Sylvan Esso and Bibio

If you’re looking for new fresh, lush electronic sounds for the summer, look no further. Although Bibio’s Silver Wilkinson is almost exactly one year old, I happened across it at the record store when picking up Sylvan Esso’s very first release. And besides wanting to own it, I realized that the two would make a fantastic pair for listening. These albums both satisfy a need for shimmery electronic beats and thoughtful compositions, expressing both feel-good sounds for sunny days and the more introspective tunes for overcast ones.

Sylvan Esso 2014Sylvan Esso – Sylvan Esso

Sylvan Esso is the project of Amelia Meath and Nicholas Sanborn. There is a beautifully written version of their story on their Facebook page, and I’m not going to try to outdo it. What I will say is that I have been listening nonstop in my car since May 13th, when it was released, and I already know most all of the words. So far, “Could I Be,” “Coffee,” and “Uncatena” are my favorites.

Bibio 2014Bibio – Silver Wilkinson

Bibio is the project of Stephen Wilkinson, and this is definitely not his first album. As I don’t feel informed enough to talk at length about who he is and what he does, I’ll leave you to do some research. The song that you will have on repeat around town, however, is “tout a l’heure.”
