The Crushed Monocle Podcast is a show where Jon and Coop talk about stuff. ALL the stuff! Music, movies, shows, life, or whatever. Naturally, they will mispronounce names, poke fun at themselves, and never fail to profess their love for the 1995 masterpiece, Showgirls. Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why it’s essential that you subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 17 – Halloween Havoc!
Editor’s note: This episode will contain various spoilers for several horror movies, namely Halloween Ends.
Fog rolls in as a crow calls out from the distance. The wind is picking up and the sound can only be matched by the beating of your heart. The only light is the full moon and the glowing eyes of the creatures of the night. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, boys and ghouls, it’s the Halloween season! To celebrate this macabre month of tantalizing terrors, we had to invite the most comprehensive creep we know to be our co-host with the most. Mr. Brandon Perras!
As an actor, writer, and director, Perras is an accomplished tastemaker of all things horror trash. His film Death Drop Gorgeous made a big impact at various film festivals as well as become somewhat of a progressive beacon for LGBTQ indie filmmakers. It can be seen on Shudder, Amazon Prime, and various theatrical screenings. While Perras puts the finishing touches on his next film, Saint Drogo, he was kind enough to take a break and dish out some hot takes on this year’s various horror outings. And of course, we needed him to unleash some Halloween Havoc on the latest (and presumably last?) installment of the Halloween franchise, Halloween Ends.
In addition to the passionate exploration of Halloween Ends, we discuss a pulsating plethora of spooky topics such as:
- Some random metal band who couldn’t perform with a laptop.
- Pumpkin spice is hot wet garbage.
- Justin Long only plays characters with the worst luck ever.
- Hollywood has its claws into every auteur film.
- John Carpenter has a pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.
Most importantly, we talk about supporting horror movies that represent what horror is really about.
While horror movies have always had their share of social commentary, the current trend of nudging the audience might be ruining the fun factor. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having something to say, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of the film itself. Sometimes horror hounds just want to check out of reality for a couple of hours and watch a masked assailant murder some people to death. Is that too much to ask?
Do all these topics interest you? Sure they do! The takes are as hot as the cast of an 80s slasher movie! The Halloween Havoc episode of the Crushed Monocle Podcast covers all of this and more! We may not be elevated as an A24 wine-tasting event, but we sure do love us some trash bin escapades! So, don’t investigate that strange noise, get busy in the woods just yet. Go listen to Brandon, Jon and I talk about stuff. All the stuff!
