The Crushed Monocle Podcast is a show where Jon and Coop talk about stuff. ALL the stuff! Music, movies, shows, life, or whatever. Naturally, they will mispronounce names, poke fun at themselves, and never fail to profess their love for Showgirls’ 1995 masterpiece. Doesn’t that excite you? Sure it does! This is why it’s essential that you subscribe to this podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you consume fine podcasts. This is the Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 16 – Cover Me In Covers!
Editor’s note: This episode was recorded in August and meant for September but we had a spontaneous Riot Fest episode we ended up recording AFTER this one. So the episode might be a little weird. Bear with us.
No matter how cool an artist thinks they are, they all started out by covering someone else’s output. But is that really such a bad thing? A bop is a bop no matter who did it first. But when does a simple cover become a gimmick? I don’t know about you but we don’t have time to listen to something ironically. Besides, there’s been many cases when a cover tune introduced good music to audiences who may have otherwise overlooked. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. Wait, who are they anyway?
In this episode, Jon and Coop discuss their thoughts on covers as well as various topics such as:
- The funky dissidence of Wombo.
- Black MIDI is so freakin’ weird but tasty.
- Coop is a really good drummer for 3 seconds.
- The Wallflowers are the worse version of Counting Crows
- Why won’t Weezer just go away?
- Kendon always gets a cameo appearance.
Do these topics interest you? Well, you’ve stuck it out with us for this far, so we gotta be doing something right! Most importantly, don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share The Crushed Monocle Podcast in your favorite format. So, kick back and enjoy Jon, and Coop, as they talk about stuff. ALL the stuff!
