Crushed Monocle Podcast: Episode 2 – The Ballad of 1996

The Bearded Gentlemen First of The Month Podcast has been rebooted. And just like all those reboots you didn’t ask for, we’re turning it into something barely recognizable! The role of host will now be played by me, Coop! The co-host will still be played none other than site owner, Jon Robertson. We’re also changing the name of it to The Crushed Monocle Podcast too. But maybe this isn’t a natural change but the result of a hostile corporate takeover!? Who knows!?

Seeing as Jon and I peaked as human beings during the summer of 1996, who else would you rather hear discuss pop culture’s monumental year?

On the second episode of the Crushed Monocle Podcast, Jon and I talk about a wide variety of topics you may or may not be interested in:

  • The mysterious shelving of the original second episode
  • Celestial Blues, the new album from King Woman
  • The triumphant return of Liars
  • Guns N’ Roses dropping a sweaty industrial log
  • Van Halen fighting about tornadoes
  • Elizabeth Berkley being forever our girl

But most importantly, Jon and I have figured out the answer to the age-old question of who in fact, sucked out the feelin’?

Nostalgia aside, 1996 was a bizarre year for music. For every top-tier artist who struggled to find relevancy in the post-grunge world, there were 10 one-hit-wonders who disappeared after 3 months in the buzz bin. However, the media might lead you to believe the death of alternative rock was at the hands of pop and nu-metal, it really had more to do with Bill Clinton’s Telecommunications Act.

Do all these topics interest you? Sure they do! The takes are hot as the mics! The first episode of the Crushed Monocle Podcast covers all of this and more! So, iron your Zero t-shirt, crack open a can of Surge, and listen to Jon and I talk about stuff!
