As we begin transitioning into a new way of living, we’re looking forward to making new memories. Whether it be new friends, romances, or music, it’s super exciting to discover new things. One of these new things for me is awesome dream pop duo, Slenderbodies. Their music has been receiving rave reviews of late.
Hailing from Los Angeles, Slenderbodies is comprised of members Max Vehuni and Benji Barsochinni. Both are part of the Avant Garden family and crossed paths to create a beautifully, intrinsic project. Sometimes you meet people who change your life for the better, and this was the case for Slenderbodies. They met each other in college and the rest is history.
Their latest release, are we?, transcends their dreamy, infectious catalog of music. It has so many vibes that intertwine their charming songs. It’s truly a work of art. It’s the type of album that you can let play through while you’re sharing drinks with friends at a rooftop party, or to keep you company while cleaning your place.
The album design is quite symbolic as well. A face full of colorful layers depict how humans can be simple, yet so complex. This theme is definitely significant to the album. It speaks of life, heartbreak, and all the possibilities we can encounter in this lifetime. Are we? is a compelling album that can definitely be appreciated across multiple listens.
Their video for “Belong” is the perfect example of how Slenderbodies emote such powerful lyrics and melodies. Besides being a catchy song, it’s an intricate, cinematic video. It’s aesthetically pleasing in so many ways. From featuring people of every walk of life, to the inspiring scenery, Slenderbodies know how to unearth our emotions through their quixotic music.
If I were to describe Slenderbodies’ music, and the are we? EP, it would be like this. It’s like that calm feeling you get when you’re on your way home after you’ve had an amazing day. The day was sunny, but now it’s setting. You spent the day with friends or loved ones, living and appreciating the moment.
