Today, on a very special “ska-turday”, New Jersey’s Backyard Superheroes releases a brand new song. The song, called “Music In My Head”, is a love letter to the earworms that get stuck in your head from time to time. It happens to all of us. A memory triggers, or you hear a snippet of something, and from there, you’re stuck. Nothing will calm you down or set you at ease until you finally listen to the song that’s rolling around in your brain.
For the uninitiated, Backyard Superheroes are a super-polished 3rd Wave-esque ska punk band. After being a band for nearly a decade, they just keep getting better. Their new song immediately gave me some strong Buck-o-Nine vibes. It’s a fun up-tempo ska song that will become that next earworm that gets stuck inside your head. The horn work also stands out as a highlight on the song. It really is the backbone of the song.
I listened to it four times in a row initially. It’s one of those songs that just puts you in a good mood. One that you’ll want to dance to immediately. Honestly, I can already picture the crowd’s reaction to this song in a live setting too. It’s going to be so awesome. Until then though, this music video below will have to do.
What makes this song even better is that the band will be donating all proceeds from the sales on Bandcamp for the entire months of May and June to the Asbury Park LGBTQ Health Center.
Backyard Superheroes aren’t stopping at Bandcamp revenue though. They’ve also released special edition Pride Month tie-dye T-shirts and tank tops today as well. Just like with the proceeds from the song’s release, merch sale proceeds from this special design will also be going to the same organization.
Check out how cool the new design is!
If you’ve got some extra cash, then pick up a shirt, or download “Music In My Head”. You’ll get some cool stuff, and help out a great organization at the same time.
