All things considered, 2021 has started off pretty well for Mississippi’s Flying Raccoon Suit. Earlier this year, the seven-piece ska band successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of their upcoming new album, Afterglow. Not only that, but they earned enough money to unlock a handful of stretch goals, including a new quarantine EP.
Afterglow officially releases on March 19, 2021. To get us excited for what’s to come, the band has already released two singles. Up first was “Driftwood,” which showcased a heavy guitar sound mixed with swing, surf rock, ska, and a dash of new wave Second, Flying Raccoon Suit gave us “Hive Mind,” which features a more straight forward ska punk sound with blasting horn work and lead vocals by Andrew Heaton. What’s made these single releases so great is they show just how diverse Flying Raccoon Suit is musically.
Toss And Turn Shows That Third Time’s a Charm
That versatility continues to be on display with the band’s final single release ahead of the full-length’s official release. While the new song, “Toss And Turn” won’t be available to the public on streaming services and bandcamp until this Friday, Flying Raccoon Suit have shared their music video for the song with Bearded Gentlemen Music early!
That’s right, we are honored to host the debut of the music video for “Toss and Turn” by Flying Raccoon Suit. The video was directed by the band’s drummer and producer Kerley. He did a great job of matching the mood and tone of the song.
Musically, the song has a little bit of everything: atmospheric indie with emotional lyrical content, instrumental sections that rival the likes of the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, and Big Band/Swing gang vocals. The band really show a different side with “Toss and Turn,” and it’s awesome.
If you want to be one of the first people to hear the new song, check out the video below!
If you liked what you heard from the video, make sure to check out the band’s merch page by clicking HERE! From there, you’ll be able to pick up Afterglow. FRS has it on CD and limited vinyl. While you’re there, also check out their cool new shirt designs. Don’t be stingy. We’re in the middle of a pandemic and they can’t play shows. 😉
The year is young, but I have a feeling Afterglow will end up on a lot of year end lists. So, don’t sleep on it!
