Favorite Overrated Underrated with Tiny Tree

I discovered Tiny Tree about a month ago when Mario Quintero from the band Spotlights posted about them on Facebook saying that he had worked on Tiny Tree’s new album, Embolism. Well, being as I love Spotlights I naturally checked Tiny Tree out and immediately loved what I heard. Some background on Tiny Tree before I tell you how much I love their music. Tiny Tree formed in November 2017 by Addison Eilers (Guitar, Vocals), and Paul Jensen (Drums, Synth, Samples). Embolism is their first full length following a two-song EP The Road and single Lion and the Meteor.

Embolism is a 9 track album that flows as one giant song with distinct sections. There are several tracks that serve as interludes into something far grander and punishing. Both of the dudes absolutely rule at their craft. These songs are crazy original and the songwriting, structure, vocals, electronics, riffs, and drum beats are all perfection. It all rules! Proggy-Pummeling-Post-Noise-Dream-Rock. There does that make sense?

The reason that I started the Favorite Overrated Underrated feature was for bands exactly like Tiny Tree. I want to know what music they love, music they think is lame, and hopefully find an album or artist I have never heard of in the underrated music section. Shout out to Eilers and Jensen for participating in the feature.

Tiny Tree’s Embolism is easily one of the best heavy-type music releases this year.

Favorite Album

Addison Eilers – “I struggle with that.  I would have to narrow it down to Copeland, 2003-2008 era.  Their records sound so amazing and there is a great blend of mellow to banging.”

Paul Jensen – “This seems to change as great new stuff comes out but currently it’s a tie between Spotlights – Love & Decay and Torche – Restarter. Both albums are sexy as hell with warm tones and front to back easy listening all day long.

Overrated Album

Addison Eilers – “Anything djent. It has morphed into something I can’t quite jive on.”

Paul Jensen – “Tool – Fear Inoculum… 13 years of anticipation likely caused that for me. Don’t get me wrong it’s a decent album and I love their stuff but after 13 years I was expecting Christ-like miracles and that album doesn’t walk on water.’’

Underrated Album

Addison Eilers – The B-52sCosmic Thing.  If it falls into that category?  This album has so many clever parts and hooks, it always sucks me in.

Paul JensenBotch – We are the Romans was one of those albums that every time I listened to it I heard something new and fresh. That album is full of energy and sorta just drifted away. I hear so many of that band’s ideas, concepts, and textures regurgitated in other bands today.
