Sometimes we are all so busy that it’s tough to take a moment to pause, reflect, and enjoy the little things such as a good cup of coffee or a song by a band you just found out about and have on repeat til you know it by heart. Sometimes, music finds us, which is happily my case when Council found me.
Hailing from Baldwinsville, NY – Council consists of three brothers hoping to trade in a life of farming for success in their true passion, music. Pat, Doug, and Andy Reeves who have opened for well- known bands such as The Strumbellas, The All American Rejects and The Kooks, have established themselves as one of the top up and coming bands to watch.
Their music has been featured in numerous places, to name a few – 2018 Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, World Of Dance, and the Premier League.
Council recently finished an EP titled “Haunt Me” with the help of music producer Matt Squire who has worked with the likes of Panic at the Disco, Demi Lovato, Taking Back Sunday, etc. which is a sure sign that you’ll be listening to some great tunes. Haunt Me begins with a dark and broody, “Savages” but then turns into a catchy anthem as soon as the beat drops that you’ll find yourself singing even after you stop listening to it. As we’re living in crazy times, “Savages” was picked up by TBS for March Madness and with the YES Network and Yankees organization for usage throughout the season but just because it’s not happening doesn’t mean we can’t find the beauty behind the song and sing our hearts out to it.
As Haunt Me progresses, it begins to become hard to pick a favorite from “Get Numb” to “Haunts Me” to “Born Ready” – each song beautifully transitions into the next and hits home from a broken heart to know that you’ll be good and stronger in the end. It’s strange and bittersweet in a way of how the EP mirrors what we’re currently going through and how it ends with “Born Ready”; that’s an anthem how we are resilient against the trials and tribulations that life deals us. My favorite track has to be “Haunt Me”, I’m pretty sure most, if not all of us, have gone through love or personal relationship that makes us question what love really is and how it’s been portrayed in our eyes. Learning from it, through pain and the struggles and in the end coming out a better person for yourself.
Council is definitely that band that needs to be on your radar if you want to feel inspired, empowered, and exhilarated.
