Sold out a month in advance and packed wall to wall, Toro Y Moi made his Orlando debut at The Social, and the crowd made Chaz Bundick and his band feel more than welcome.

They opened with the first track from 2013’s Anything In Return, “Harm In Change”. Like every other track on Anything In Return and in Toro Y Moi’s discography, this song is extremely upbeat and danceable. There wasn’t a single person in the room that wasn’t moving in some way, and I will admit that the dancing I did at this show was the most I’ve ever done in one place. Quite a feat for me.

I was particularly excited to see the synths and MIDI controllers the band were using as I’ve recently been getting into making electronic music myself.

The set consisted of songs from most of the Toro Y Moi discography, though most were from 2011’s Underneath The Pine and Anything In Return.

I can’t remember exactly where in the set this was, but at one point after one of the songs the crowd went absolutely nuts with applause. Bundick assured everyone that they would most definitely be back to Orlando at some point in the future (the near future, I hope), and that he was sorry he never made it down.

Toro Y Moi closed with “Say That”, arguably the funnest song of the night, and after another explosive applause, the band returned to the stage to play an encore consisting of “New Beat”.

The night was only made better by seeing my former high school principal, who I was surprised but also pleased to see at the show. Unfortunately I didn’t get to talk to him since it was so packed, but Mr. Hickey if you’re reading this, it was good seeing you and thanks for catching my cap when it was blown off my head as I walked across the stage at graduation.
